Το ΔΠΜΣ ΄Βιοτεχνολογία' διοργανώνει επιστημονικό σεμινάριο με τίτλο “Chance, more than genes and environment, dominates the origins of phenotypic variation and disease risk"

Ομιλητής είναι ο Dr Joseph Nadeau, Διευθυντής Ερευνών στο Center for Molecular Medicine, Maine Medical Center Research Institute και θερμός συνδιοργανωτής των Aegean Conferences που τον καθιστά τακτικό επισκέπτη στη χώρα μας.

Το σεμινάριο θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Πέμπτη, 9 Νοεμβρίου 2023, στις 16:00, στον Τομέα Φυσιολογίας Ζώων & Ανθρώπου και την Αίθουσα «Πέτρος Βλάχος».

Η γλώσσα του σεμιναρίου θα είναι Αγγλικά.

Summary:  Is the primary determinant of phenotypic variation and disease risk missing from our thinking and work? We argue that stochastic events during development trigger epigenetic changes that then persist deterministically throughout life and lead to distinct phenotypic outcomes.

An evidence-based model will be presented for the ways that chance, together with genes and the environment, lead to individuality in phenotypic variation and disease risk.

Short CV:  Dr. Nadeau is an internationally-recognized geneticist with expertise in genomics, development, epigenetics, metabolism, bioinformatics, and computational and systems biology, and with a focus on mouse models of human disease. He is one of the few who has received both an NIH Pioneer Award and an NIH Transformative Research Award.
